about

I’d happened upon this place, that supposedly never closed, with the strongest certainty that I’d not discovered it but returned to it. Of course, this was just a feeling. An amalgam of similar feelings from places that I have archived: A Späti above the hatch at Leopold Platz, two 7-Elevens that face each other and, more recently, sitting outside a construction site with omniscient cranes looming over Footscray. Nostalgic but kind of freaky — a nice artefact of late stage Confused Corporations™ I guess?

Yet, the Peppermint Kiosk is very much somewhere else, harder to place on a map. It’s situated at a situation — if you will. It exists at the intersection of the minds who happen to be in on it at that specific moment. How do you get there? Straight Ahead Then Take The Next Wrong, that’s the way isn’t it?

I went inside, heading straight for the fridge.

But the more I fixated on my surroundings, the more my vector space expanded. I let it unfurl: this hidden place was revealing itself to me in a hazy glow. A lot didn’t make sense, but at no point did I think I was dreaming. The Peppermint Kiosk was weird as fuck, but it was the real deal.

***
A few months later, I walked out the same door, onto a different street in a different night. I left the Peppermint Kiosk not with any transcendent illumination or greater enlightenment, but with a $2 novelty lighter and memories of a wild time.

“So how was it?” They asked me
“Yeah, fun.”

Willee launches Puzzled Recordings with ‘Peppermint Kiosk’: a 6-track introduction to his playful sonic universe. Evoking classic tech-house and electro influences with an energy and personality that is distinctly his own, Willee offers a vibrant take on timeless club music. At times euphoric, occasionally more brooding, the release is a rounded display of Willee’s affinity for tight, groove-driven compositions that are rich in character and never too serious. At its heart, ‘Peppermint Kiosk’ is earnest and fun, inviting the listener to simply enjoy.
